With the coronavirus pandemic, The Anti-Cruelty Society made the difficult decision to cancel their biggest fundrasier of the year, Bark In The Park. Cancelling this event was the right thing to do but the Society still needs our help to support the animal care and behavioral specialists, veterinarians and technicians whose essential work requires them to continue to provide direct care to the animals in our shelter during this crisis. That’s why I’m helping them move from the park to the heart by fundraising for Bark From The Heart.
This year, I am fundraising for Bark from the Heart through the Society's Teen Team. Over the past 6 years, I have had the honor of supporting young Chicagoans through developing and facilitating teen programs. In my work, I am constantly inspired by the compassionate, ambitious youth I meet. Many of the teens that come through our programs stay with us for years, allowing me the privilege of supporting them throughout their high school experience and beyond. Our teen programs provide learning and hands-on volunteer opportunities that develop career skills, inspire compassion, and teach animal care to thousands of teens per year. Perhaps my favorite part of our teen programs, however, is witnessing the bonds that form between participants that last even after their program ends.
The Society is unique among shelters in Chicago for many reasons, however the one that is nearest to my heart is the committment to youth programming; our teen programs are free of charge. With your help we can continue providing a supportive environment for Chicago youth to discover and kindle their passion for animals, gain valuable experiences and skills, and form cherished friendships.
The Anti-Cruelty Society has been building a more humane Chicago for people and pets since their founding 1899. Since then, the Society has grown into Chicago's oldest and largest open admission animal welfare organization, and their programs and services improve the lives of thousands of animals and Chicagoans every year. The Anti-Cruelty Society’s mission is to build a community of caring by helping pets and educating people.
However, the care that The Anti-Cruelty Society provides to animals in need is only possible through the friendship of the community. I hope that you will support me and support Bark in the Park 2020. Your generosity will ensure that thousands of abandoned and neglected animals will find hope, comfort, and healing this year
