Lindsay Welbers' Bark From The Heart Fundraiser
I started working with The Anti-Cruelty Society in January because I know they are a responsible and valuable part of Chicago's community. My husband, Dave, and I cracked jokes at first about how we would accidentally adopt a dog while I was employed there. In seriousness, we were talking about finding the right pup for us probably later in the year. Then there was a pandemic. We raised our hands to volunteer to foster a dog but we were very clear with everyone at every step of the way about our high likelihood of being a "foster fail." Which is what they call it when a foster likes an animal too much and doesn't give them back. Then we met Dixie, a skittish, high-energy, whip smart little pupperino. It didn't take long for her to herd her way straight into our hearts.
We're so grateful to The Anti-Cruelty Society for allowing us to meet Dixie and give her a place in our home. The work they do is so critial to Chicago as a community. They provide compassionate care to any animal that needs it, regardless of age, condition or temperment. Even during these weird times their doors are still open to provide the most necessary care to those who need it the most. The Society's staff are knowledgable and empathetic to both people and pets.
The year I set an ambitious fundraising goal for Bark From The Heart. The money raised will be used to provide critical care for thousands of animals, and help them find good homes. In 2018 The Anti-Cruelty Society helped over 5,700 animals find homes. They also reached over 21,000 people through their outreach programs; helped 1,770 abused or neglected animals through their field outreach service; and spayed or neutered nearly 10,000 animals.
The Anti-Cruelty Society has been building a more humane Chicago for people and pets since their founding 1899. Since then, the Society has grown into Chicago's oldest and largest open admission animal welfare organization, and their programs and services improve the lives of thousands of animals and Chicagoans every year. The Anti-Cruelty Society’s mission is to build a community of caring by helping pets and educating people.
However, the care that The Anti-Cruelty Society provides to animals in need is only possible through the friendship of the community. I hope that you will support me and support Bark in the Park 2020. Your generosity will ensure that thousands of abandoned and neglected animals will find hope, comfort, and healing this year.
