Stephanie Castrounis is Running a Marathon!
2020 is the year that I turn 40 years old and I decided to challenge myself to achieve a BIG goal to mark this milestone. To that end, I am going to run the Chicago Marathon this year. I decided to join Team Anti-Cruelty Society to raise much needed money for this amazing organization.
Since 1899, the Society has endured as Chicago's oldest and largest open admission animal welfare organization, one that provides a wide breadth of programs that save the lives of thousands of animals each year. All animals are welcome at the Society every day of the year. They never turn an animal away from their doors. Ever. And once an animal is admitted, they can stay as long as it takes to find their forever home.
I have two very personal experiences with Anti-Cruelty. First, we adopted an adorable orange kitten, Obi-Wan Kenobi from Anti-Cruelty. We fell in love with him, but after only a week at home, he was hospitalized back at Anti-Cruelty. At first the vet, Dr. Belding, thought it was a simple infection and he would eventually come home, but then she realized it was a chronic condition. Dr. Belding advised us to release Obi-Wan back to Anti-Cruelty and they would adopt him out as a special needs kitty. Dr. Belding took so much time with us, despite a huge caseload and long work hours, allowing us to visit with Obi-Wan during his hospitalization, and coaching us through this traumatic experience.
When we were ready, this same vet took it upon herself to help us find a healthy kitten to adopt... which we did. Yoda has been with us for over a year now and he is a joy. He is a loving and playful addition to our home, and we couldn't imagine life without him. We know this would not have been possible without Anti-Cruelty.
This care that the Society provides is only possible through the support of people like you and me. By choosing to run with Team Anti-Cruelty, I am am hoping to make a difference for each and every one of the animals that comes to the Society in search of hope, comfort, and a foreverer home.
