Why I'm running for Anti-Cruelty...
A pair of black Labrador brothers traveled over an ocean to the US with me when I was four. Soon, a very dog-like cat joined the family after I watched Oliver and Company too many times and relentlessly begged my parents for a kitten.
A few years later, the first of those labs passed away and we could tell that his brother was missing a piece of himself. So, a few months later, we wondered if introducing another dog to the family would help. It's debatable whether a Boston Terrier puppy was exactly what Oscar was looking for (or if it just accelerated his aging process), but that puppy became a Larson nonetheless.
Fast-forward to 2016 ~ our Boston was becoming an older man and I began to volunteer as a dog walker at a local animal shelter. Then, the inevitable happened: a clumsy, large pitbull/lab mix decided to be obnoxiously adorable and I had no choice but to adopt him.
When I moved to Chicago, the boys weren't able to join me in a tiny studio apartment. Luckily, Anti-Cruelty is nearby and I'm able to spend time walking dogs there as a volunteer. Unsurprisingly, all of them are obnoxiously adorable too. Since the dogs and cat I grew up with brought and continue to bring genuine joy to my life every day, I want to help each of the animals at the shelter find their happy homes and families too.
Please help me achieve this goal by donating to Team Anti-Cruelty today!
About Anti-Cruelty
In 1899, Rose Fay Thomas, wife of Chicago Symphony Orchestra founder Theodore Thomas, established The Anti-Cruelty Society and forever changed the landscape of animal welfare throughout the Chicago region. Since that time, the Society has endured as Chicago's oldest and largest open admission animal welfare organization, one that provides a wide breadth of programs that save the lives of thousands of animals each year. A certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and the recipient of a four-star Charity Navigator rating, The Anti-Cruelty Society’s mission is to build a community of caring by helping pets and educating people.
Today, The Anti-Cruelty Society remains the oldest and the largest open admission animal welfare organization in Chicago. All animals are welcome at the Society every day of the year. We never turn an animal away from our doors. Ever. And once an animal is admitted, they can stay as long as it takes to find their forever home.
However, the care that we provide to animals in need is only possible through the friendship and support of our community. And by choosing to run with Team Anti-Cruelty, you are making a difference to each and every one of the animals that comes to us in search of hope, comfort, and healing.
