Hello Friends!

If the pandemic has taught us one thing, that is the importance of appreciating those around us and that includes the pets in our lives. I watch our kids--each with a pandemic pup and not only do we adore the animals but I love to see how each of them care for and protect that animal as a true and endearing part of our extended family. Horton, Brie, and JD (all rescue pups in the order they joined the family), bring joy and happiness to the kids and to Ken and I too. It has been amazing watching them grow their love for these animals that makes me even more proud for the work we do at The Anti-Cruelty Society. 

At this time last year, I thought that the effects from the pandemic would be over and now a year later, we are still living with what I expect will be long term effects. That did not stop The Anti-Cruelty Society from moving forward into growth and I am so proud to be part of this organization--watching how people have continued to adapt and change to keep up with the changing times.

Over the past year, we launched a new mission, vision and values. While many organizations took the time for this kind of deep reflection, I really feel that ours showcase our commitment to the human-animal bond. It is about building a healthy and happy community where pets and people thrive together. We are focused on our values which are the heart of our commitment: inclusion, passion, access, trust, and hope. Hope may be my favorite one (although they are all so important) but hope shares the true story of our work to care for and protect animals in need. To bring them hope. To bring them a second chance. 

This year, BARK--our largest and most important fundraiser--is back LIVE!! That is so exciting and we are making it that much better by dedicating this year's event in the honor of Officer Ella French--a Chicago policewoman who lost her life last year. We honor Officer French for her service but also to her dedication to animals. Everyone says that when she would see a stray animal on the streets, she would run after it to bring it to safety. We honor Ella for her passion and for bring hope to so many. 

I hope that you will join me in support of BARK this year that goes beyond honoring Ella's memory but honors the hard work and dedication that every member of our organization brings every day and for the impact we have to save thousands of animals each year.
