Anyone who has loved an animal knows how special that connection can be. This year, as part of my Chicago Marathon experience, I will be raising money for the Anti-Cruelty Society, an organization that facilitates many of these great human-animal relationships by running a shelter and managing adoptions.  However, they do much more than that:

Its focus is to provide the following:

• Compassionate care for any animal in need
• An attempt to find a home for every healthy or rehabilitatable dog and cat
• Intervention to prevent cruelty to animals
• Community education on animal issues to inspire compassion and respect; and
• Low or no cost spaying or neutering

My family has a very personal connection to the ACS in Chicago.  When my wife, Amanda, was working downtown, she would volunteer her lunch hours to walking and playing with the dogs that were waiting for their forever homes.
